A guide to making beautiful decorative objects for home decoration.
DIY for the holidays and beyond.

There is nothing more satisfying than creating an item that can enhance your home. Even more so when the items are rescued just before being thrown away.
Our DIY section offers a light escape from the news and four creative options for new vases.

The holiday season is an opportunity to create useful decorative objects with children, from everyday items.
As described in the classic story “Small Jar,” a jar from an ancient time that contained pure oil, enough for one day but lasted eight days, became a central symbol of the holiday.

Similarly, we hope the vases below can, by a small miracle, serve you much longer than their previous life as food, drink, or cosmetic containers.

Vases are complementary elements that complete any space.
Minimalist, large, simple, or sophisticated, in various materials and patterns, or plain.
Vases combine practical, aesthetic, and artistic qualities.
Here are some suggestion, taking objects from trash to treasure.

• Craft knife
• Plaster strips
• Scissors
• 4-5 sheets of absorbent paper
• Plastic glue
• A little plaster powder
• A little water
• Leftover paint
• Disposable plastic cup
• Acrylic paint in a color of your choice

  1. Cut the soap container to the desired height asymmetrical cuts are recommended.
  2. Cover with a thin layer of plaster strips, wet them with water, and wrap around the container. You can add a handle on the side.
  3. Make a simple paper paste: cut the absorbent paper into small squares, add 2-3 tablespoons of plaster powder, and a similar amount of plastic glue. If too dry, add a little water.
  4. Apply the paste around the container, thickening it. Smooth and sculpt gently with wet hands. Wait until completely dry.
  5. Paint the vase with acrylic paint.
  6. Pour some paint into a thin disposable cup, cover the cup in a circular motion with the paint, and remove excess.
    Wait for it to dry.
  7. Once dry, crush the paint into small pieces, rub into powder.
  8. Mix paint pieces with a little plastic glue and apply to the vase to create a terrazzo effect.
